Throughout the Volleyball unit the students will learn the basic skills to participate in this popular sport. The skills include the bump, set, and serve. By completing small activities, the students will develop and refine this skills so that they will be able to comfortably participate in small-sided games. As the class learns new physical skills, they also learn some fundamental game tactics. It is important that the students understand principles regarding space, positioning, and teamwork when participating in a team game.
Volleyball is an interesting sport because it is played both recreationally and competitively. Volleyball is a common activity for lots of backyard parties as well as at some campgrounds and beaches. People of almost all ages can play the game, which makes it one of our favorite things - a lifelong activity.

learning objectives
- Learn how to properly execute a bump, set, and underhand serve
- Know the bump is used when the ball is below the shoulders and the set is used when the ball is above the shoulders. Be able to recognize this is in modified game situations
- Be able to use the bump and set for accuracy while implementing strategies regarding positioning
- Understand the appropriate rotation of players during a small-sided game
- Learn how to maximize a team's opportunity to hit the ball three times utilizing repositioning and movement strategies
