soccer
description
This unit will continue to build the fundamental kicking, dribbling, and passing skills from the previous units in the Prime Division. The lessons will review partner passing, kicking a stationary ball, kicking a moving ball, and dribbling. Students will get a chance to practice the skills and become more comfortable with them before being asked to play in a modified game. At least one lesson will focus on rules and responsibilities of each position. These concepts are nearly just as important as the skills themselves. If students never learn the rules, they will be at an extreme disadvantage. With that said, the students will be developing their skills while playing small activities. The dynamic environment of these activities helps to replicate more game-like situations.
At the end of the unit, the students will participate in a larger game on the soccer field outside. Sportspersonship and teamwork are two of the major focuses of our games. Students must learn to work with teammates of varying skill and knowledge levels. The students will be introduced to the positions on a standard soccer team as well. This will help them gain a better understanding of game tactics and strategies.
