floor hockey
Description
Throughout the Floor Hockey unit, the students will learn various rules of the sport, modifications we will make in class, how to work together as a team, and the responsibilities of each player position. Students will complete smaller activities that focus on passing, shooting, stick-handling, and defense. These activities are meant to refine skills so that the students will be more prepared to play in larger games towards the end of the unit.
Classes learned about the different zones of a hockey rink and how certain players have responsibilities in each of those zones. Some drills were completed with a partner while others involved playing small games of 3v3 or 4v4 keep away. Not only did these drills help improve hockey skills, but they also helped improve game concepts such as moving to the open space, making lead passes, and creating passing lanes. Throughout the unit, we stressed safety as one of our primary concerns. The students had to demonstrate proper control of their bodies and sticks. Most of our games were terrific and the kids were able to learn so much while having fun!
