badminton
description
The Badminton unit is a continuation of the various net games that we have played over the course of the past couple years. Badminton is one of my favorite sports to teach. It is engaging, can be fast paced, and requires a great deal of precision. After the students start to get the hang of it, they tend to have a lot of fun. This unit is unique because we play games almost every day. The class will start with a warm-up, followed by the first game. This game is an extension of the warm-up as well as review from the previous lesson. After a few minutes, the students will gather together for a brief demonstration about a new skill or concept. They will then go practice this skill or concept before beginning the second game. The second game often has special conditions. If one of the players scores a point using the new skill or concept, they gain an extra point. This encourages students to continue to utilize the practice activities in game situations.
