Fitness Games
Description
Throughout the Fitness unit the Junior Division students participated in a variety of different activities. The unit started with the students completing a variety of fitness tests such as the Pacer, Curl Up, and Push Up Tests. Each of the tests measured either aerobic fitness or muscular endurance/strength. The students will have a chance to repeat these tests towards the end of the unit to see if they can improve upon their scores. The great thing about these fitness tests is that they encourage creating personal goals. The students were excited for themselves and each other because they recognized that every person was working as hard as they possibly could. I know they are anticipating getting their second chance to beat their previous scores.
The unit also focused on teaching the students how to perform a variety of exercises to improve their aerobic fitness as well as muscular strength/endurance. These activities include Yoga, Weight Training, and Yoga. The students will learn about nutrition throughout this unit as well. It is important that young children understand what nutrients they consume with each meal or snack. Obesity is a growing problem in the United States and one of the only ways to counteract it is to educate today's youth.

- How exercising with friends can help challenge you and can also be more fun than exercising on your own
