australian football
description
Australian Football is a fast-paced, exciting game that combines many of the skills that students are familiar with, but adds in a few extra wrinkles. The running, evasion, kicking, throwing, and catching found in most other games is present in Australian Football, but there are other rules that make this game slightly more difficult. The ball can be kicked or punched to teammates, but the ball must be kicked through uprights (almost like American football) in order for points to be scored. This game will allow the students to work together in small teams to accomplish a common goal - to score more points than the other team!
Once the students get the hang of it, I know that they'll have fun. The fast-paced play of the game allows for a great deal of movement and excitement. Plus, the fact that a point can be scored from anywhere on the field makes this game even more entertaining. The students will progress from learning the rules during small practice activities to playing in small-sided games by the end of the unit.
