rugby
description
Rugby is an interesting game that is not quite as popular in the United States as it is in other parts of the world. It is a game that can be compared to American Football although there are many differences. American Football was actually derived from Rugby. Rugby is usually a very physical sport with many different rules. It can take a long time to learn the intricacies of the sport so we have modified the game to accommodate the number of students we have in class and the time we have to learn the new material.
The students participated in a number of different activities meant to teach them about defensive strategies, how to pass, score, and position themselves in order to support their teammates. Activities such as relay races and team passing drills were used to prepare the students for participation in larger games. Ultimately, the students need to gain an understanding of how to play the game and how to use their skills in 4v4 or 6v6 situations. This is the first time many students have heard of Rugby so it can be a challenge for them to adjust accordingly. Many students want to follow the rules of American Football because that is what they are familiar with. While it takes time, the fast-paced nature of this game tends to lead to a lot of fun and movement!
