handball
Description
Throughout the Handball unit, the Junior Division will be introduced to a variety of skills that are essential to participating in games at a high level. In order to practice these skills, the students will partake in individual and team drills that focus on topics such as maintaining possession, creating space, passing, catching, and dribbling. The last few classes are dedicated to incorporating all of the skills and team concepts/strategies into small-sided games.
The Juniors will also learn about teamwork and how to be inclusive of everyone. The students are encouraged to make multiple passes before taking a shot, recognizing who on the team has not had the ball recently, and when it is the appropriate time to shoot. It is important that all the students in the Junior Division understand how to work with people of varying skill levels. Decreasing the speed of a throw for a classmate that may struggle catching a ball is one of the more simplistic adjustments I expect to see throughout the unit.
